What does having regular bowel movements mean and why is that important?

On a daily basis, one should have 2-3 bowel movements to be considered regular.  Constipation occurs if you consistently do not have regular bowel movements.  To avoid this uncomfortable and unhealthy dilemma, drink plenty of water daily and eat foods high in fiber.  If you are taking supplements or prescription drugs with diuretic properties, it is increasingly important to stay hydrated to avoid dehydration and constipation.
